New Amazon Kindle 2 is one sexy looking e-reader, if you’re into that.
Following in the footsteps of their highly successful Kindle e-book reader, Amazon has officially released the second generation of their new portable ebook reader, the Kindle 2. Although it won’t ship until February 24th, we have all the details.
According to TechCrunch, the first Kindle has sold over 250,000 units and is on schedule to sell about about 500,000 more within the next four quarters. The new Kindle 2 will certainly boost those numbers for Amazon’s ever-popular revolutionary e-book reader, although some analysts fear that the price tag is high during times of a recession. There are more than 230,000 books available for download and many of the top US and International newspapers on the revolutionary device which lets you browse the web wirelessly and download on-demand.
The new Kindle 2 takes on a much sleeker profile with clean buttons and definitely resembles an iPhone from the back.
Amazon officially released the new Kindle 2 today, February 9th with a price tag of $359 however, the device won’t ship until February 24th. Hopefully this time they’ll have enough and won’t sell out like they did during the launch of the first Kindle. Who knew e-book readers would be so popular?
The new Kindle sports a much nicer E-Ink® electronic paper display with 16 shades of gray compared to 4 on the first Kindle, more storage, free 3G access and more.
“We’ve been working many years, 12 years perhaps, selling e-books, and you needed an electron microscope to find the sales. Nobody came. Nobody wanted them. Nobody needed e-books,” said Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos. “The key thing is there was the wireless connectivity built in, what we call ‘whisper net.’ It’s the same advanced network that 3G cell phones use, but we hide all the complexity. There’s no monthly bill. We bundle the delivery into the cost of the book.
